What about elder abuse by siblings? I’ve been abused by my brother, mentally, physically, verbally and emotionally. My sister is emotionally, verbally and mentally abusive. They protect each other so I feel unsafe. Even the courts blew it off as no big deal, scepter hand out a order of protection that’s a piece of paper, means nothing to an abuser. My other siblings ignore it as long it doesn’t affect them. Please don’t leave this kind of abuse out, because it happens more then you know.

Do you have any thoughts on the Complementarianism teachings? The complementarianism views put men’s full authority and power over women who are taught full submission. Do you think there is a power imbalance which leads/enables abuse?

Thank you so much for this study and lecture. My experience however is a bit different. I was raised in a very loving non violent liberal family. However, conservative religious people wanted to scapegoat liberals as being destructive. So these conservative religious groups targeted my family members and abused us to discredit our family because they wanted to slander our politics and religious views. So I was not abused by my family members. I was abused by conservative religious people who wanted to make my family look dysfunctional. I am talking about poisoning people, car accidents, and murders. Really criminal activity on the part of Christian Institutions who feel they are above the law. I dearly love the members of my family and have tried to help them deal with this abusive religious system as best I could. However the Domestic Violence was coming from my church home, not my blood relatives. Churches misuse scripture to impose violent systems, especially on people who have stood up for non-violence to punish them into being as violent as the rest of their churches. The violence is originating directly from the church as it did in the crusades and the Inquisition. We need more lectures and statistical studies on this topic. And we need prosecution of violent religious members and institutions in America not just in the Middle East. Also we need prosecution of lying by religious groups which is also a form of abuse.

Disagree with his view on the use of pornography. Pornography objectifies women which can lead to the other behaviours. Another point: if pornography is used secretly then how would the spouse know about it? In the context of abuse pornography is used to humiliate and degrade (power & control) not just to sabotage the relationship (which makes it sound like a tame offence).

It has helped me a lot and I intend to share this in Argentina, where I live. We need this kind of understanding of the God of love.
